APPLYING TO NUS BUSINESS SCHOOL
How do I get my medical check-up as required by the Singapore
Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA)? Where can I get the
medical check-up required for my Student Pass?
Incoming students for full year exchange are required to submit medical check-up reports in order
to be eligible to apply for their Student Passes. Students coming for a semester exchange (less
than six months) do not need to submit medical check-up reports unless they have been
specifically requested to do so. Students can go to any clinic, in Singapore or in their country of
residence, which provide such checkup services to have their medical check-up forms completed. Many students find it more convenient to have their medical check-up done on campus at NUS'
University Health Centre (UHC). However, students may prefer to have the medical check-up done
in their country of residence so that the costs can be covered under their existing insurance plan.
The medical report form and further instructions can be found at ICA website : http://www.ica.gov.sg/e_services_overview.aspx?pageid=312
How many courses should I take at NUS? How many courses is a
full semester's worth at NUS? Is there a minimum number of
courses I must take at NUS? Is there a maximum number of
courses I can take at NUS?
Non-Graduating (Exchange or Non-Exchange) students must be registered for a minimum of 12
Modular Credits (MCs) in order to be registered as a student in Singapore, as required by the
Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). Most courses at NUS consist of 4 MCs each so in most cases students must take a minimum of 3 courses per semester. Non-Graduating
students can take a maximum of 20 MCs or 5 courses per semester.
Degree-seeking students at NUS typically take 20 MCs per semester or 5 courses.
How much will it cost to come to NUS? How much will it cost to
study at NUS? How much money do I need?
If you plan on spending an entire academic year (10 months) at NUS, your total personal living costs would be around S$12,500. This figure does not include your airfare to and from Singapore or
the cost of tuition during exchange (tuition is paid to your own university). Please see our Cost (http://www.nus.edu/iro/sep/in/before/index.html#cost) and Financial Aid (http://www.nus.edu/iro/financial/in/index.html) sections for more information.
Will I need a visa to study at NUS? Do I need a visa to study at
NUS? How do I get a visa to study at NUS?
Please check with the Singaporean Government's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to
confirm if citizens of your country require a visa at http://www.ica.gov.sg/services_centre_overview.aspx?pageid=252&secid=165.
If an Entry Visa is required, please follow the instructions on the ICA site and from the Registrar's
Office once you have received your acceptance email.
If an Entry visa is not required, you may enter as a visitor.
All students must obtain a Student Pass (Student Visa) after they have entered Singapore.
Students who have been accepted at NUS will be sent instructions on how to apply for a student
pass in their letter of offer via email. Please read your acceptance information very carefully, there are steps that must be taken online BEFORE entering Singapore in order to obtain your Student
Pass.
How can I withdraw from exchange at NUS?
You would need to complete and submit the Withdrawal Form to the Registrar's Office, along with
your NUS student card and the letter/email from your home university to confirm your withdrawal.
Please refer to this link for more information: http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/ng-current.html#withdrawal
How can I receive more information on grades and grading
policies at NUS?
The University?s policy on grading and examinations can be found in the following link: http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/adminpolicy/gradingexam.html
Your transcript will be sent directly to the office(s) in your home university which is responsible for
student exchange programmes, about three months after the completion of the semester (unless
otherwise arranged with the partner university). Transcripts will not be processed if there are any
outstanding fees.
Can I take different courses at NUS than what my home university approved?
We advise you to check with your home university administrator to see if the courses would still
fulfill your requirements. If your home university agrees, you may indicate the desired modules on
your online application. Do note that a minimum number of modules needs to be approved at the
point of admission to ensure that immigration requirements are met. The minimum number of
required courses is three.
What can I study at NUS as an exchange student? What courses
can I take? How can I choose my courses at NUS as a
Non-Graduating student? What courses are available at NUS for
Non-Graduating students?
Exchange students at NUS can take courses at the following Faculties & Schools: Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, NUS Business School, School of Computing, School of Design & Environment,
Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Science. The NUS Registrar's Office
provides a list of courses available to exchange students approximately 1-2 months before the
application deadline. You can obtain the course descriptions from the NUS Bulletin to check with
your home university academic advisor for approval.
Please plan your study programme in the following order:
Go to http://nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/ng.html#academic and click on the blue text 'List of available modules' under item 2. 'Modules Selection & Enrolment'. The PDF file contains the list of available modules for the current semester.
Modules which will be offered for coming semesters will only be available 1-2 months before the
application deadline. Students can use the current list as a reference for courses that will likely be offered in future semesters.
Note the module names and codes you are interested in and go to the online NUS Bulletin at http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/nusbulletin/modulesearch.htm for course descriptions and workload details.
PLEASE NOTE: Only modules that are found in the PDF file are open for application by exchange
students. The NUS Bulletin provides information for all modules in general, regardless of whether
they are available for exchange students. Exchange students should use the PDF file and not the
NUS Bulletin to select their modules.
We encourage students to go through the course list independently and determine the suitable
modules in consultation with their home university. As far as possible, students should be flexible in the module planning because there is no guarantee that the modules of their choice will be
available.
1. Please note that each module of study has a unique module code consisting of a two- or three-letter prefix that denotes the discipline, and four digits, the first of which indicates the level of the
module (e.g. 1000 indicates a Level 1 module and 2000, a Level 2 module). As a general guideline, most exchange students take 2000 or 3000 level courses. Please refer to http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/modular.html for more information on modular system.
2. In general, most modules are four (4) modular credits ("MC"). Students must be allocated three
(3) modules or 12 MCs worth of modules to be issued a student pass and registered as a student
at NUS. More information is available at http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/ng.html#academic

Can I come on exchange as a PhD student? How do I apply as a PhD student for exchange at NUS? How do I apply for a Training Employment Pass as a PhD student at NUS?
PhD exchange students should coordinate directly with the NUS Faculty or School they wish to work with. The NUS Faculty or School will then assist the PhD student to obtain a Training Employment Pass. More information can be found here: http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/passes-visas/training-employment/before-you-apply/Pages/default.aspx
The student should also apply online with NUS through the Non-Graduating online application
system and submit all relevant supporting documents at least 3 months prior to the start of
research in NUS. Research fees and other mandatory miscellaneous fees for that semester will be
incurred.
Alternatively, if you are not an exchange student or do not wish to be registered as a
Non-Graduating student in NUS, the hosting NUS Department or Faculty can assist in applying for aTraining Pass . In this case, you will have no records in NUS as a registered student, and will not
be required to pay fees for your research attachment. The relevant NUS Department or Faculty will have to handle all administrative work, including visa, medical insurance as well as temporary
access card, on your behalf.

Can I do research on while on exchange at NUS? Can I come as aresearch student at NUS? Can I do my final research project or
Masters thesis on exchange at NUS?
If you wish to attend NUS to do research on exchange, you will still need to be nominated by your
home university in order to apply as an exchange student. Once nominated, you will apply online
using the same online system, but will note ?research? instead of ?coursework?. You will also need to provide 4 additional supporting documents as outlined in the application instructions, including
an email or letter from a professor at NUS who has agreed to supervise your research. Students
must find supervisors at NUS independently by contacting them using the contact information found on the NUS website.
If you are not nominated by your home university or if your university is not a partner of NUS, you
can still apply to do research at NUS as a fee-paying or ?Non-Graduating, Non-Exchange? (NGNE) student. Information on this can be found here: http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/ng.html.
You would enroll as a research student and be charged the relevant amount as
stated in http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/ng.html#fees under research project/attachment as well as the mandatory miscellaneous fees. Fee-paying research students will still
need to provide the 4 supporting documents for research applicants, including securing an NUS
supervisor independently.
Students doing research should come during the dates of the NUS semesters to facilitate
administration and housing. If a student's research takes place for or overlaps two semesters, the
student would either count for 2 semester exchange places or be charged for 2 semesters,
depending on whether the student is nominated as an exchange student or not.
Can I work while studying at NUS? Can I have an internship while studying at NUS?
Our student exchange programme is designed for students to focus primarily on coursework and
secondly on cultural exchange; it is not designed to allow time for internships or work.
We encourage students to focus on exchange coursework and experiencing Southeast Asian
culture. Students will also need energy to adjust to a new environment, learn about the host
university and experience a different part of the world! As such, jobs, voluntary internships or
industrial attachments are not allowed for Non-Graduating students. Students who wish to embark on an internship while in Singapore should plan to have it after completion of their coursework and have their employer apply for a training employment pass on their behalf.
I am considered a graduate student at my home university but
will be taking undergraduate courses at NUS, should I put
'undergraduate' or 'graduate' on my online application?
Students should indicate their level of study in their home university. Therefore, if you are studying at the Masters level at your home university you should indicate "GRADUATE" in the online
application.
