HOUSING IN NUS
Where will I live during exchange? Can I live on campus? Is housing provided for exchange students?
To be eligible for university housing, you must be accepted as a full-time undergraduate exchange
student by the Registrar's Office.
On your online application you will be asked if you would like to be considered for NUS Housing.
Please select 'YES' or 'NO'. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application in their
letter of offer and provided with instructions.
Please note that while every effort is made to offer housing to every exchange student, housing is
NOT guaranteed.
For more information please see the Office of Student Affairs? Residential Services page at http://www.nus.edu.sg/osa/housing/others/index.html.
I didn't get the accommodation/housing I wanted; can NUS appeal on my behalf?
On-campus accommodation for NUS students at most of our host universities is not guaranteed.
Neither is the choice of your preferred room. We are unable to appeal for students for specific
choices of accommodation. We suggest that you appeal directly to the host university's
accommodation services and explore the possibility of alternative housing, including private,
off-campus accommodation if the on-campus accommodation provided is not to your satisfaction.
How can I request to live at University Town or in the residential
colleges? Can I live at University Town or in the residential colleges?
Your options for housing will be listed when you log in to register for housing. Please indicate your
preferences. If University Town's residential colleges are listed as an option, you are welcome to
select them as your preferences. If they are not, you are not eligible for accommodation there.
If I don't come to NUS during normal semester times can I still get
housing? If I don't come to NUS during normal semester times can I still get accommodation? Can I get housing during the summer or winter breaks?
It is difficult to secure NUS accommodation if your stay does not coincide with the regular NUS
semester. Even if you are allocated NUS accommodation you would have to pay for the dates that youare not staying as rooms are charged on a semester basis with separate charges for the semester
holidays. You will also not have a choice in the selection of your room as you will be allocated what is available. More information can be found here http://nus.edu.sg/osa/housing.
As such, it might be better for you to look at private accommodation instead. The link http://www.nus.edu.sg/osa/housing/others/index.html has useful tips and information for doing so.
How can I have a tour of the Halls of Residence at NUS?
Some Halls of Residence do provide tours for interested students. They usually require at least two
days notice to arrange the tour and you can contact them directly to enquire:http://www.nus.edu.sg/osa/housing/General/options.html
I would like to seek on-campus accommodation for graduate
students. Can you advise on what I should do?
Please make your request online at www.hosteladmission.nus.edu.sg/
If I am applying as a Non-Graduating Non-Exchange (NGNE)
fee-paying student, can I still get housing or accommodation?
In general, housing is not offered to NGNE students due to limited on-campus accommodation. You
may wish to submit your housing application through University Housing Management Portal (UHMS)
at https://uhms.nus.edu.sg/Pre-Matstudents
for Office of Housing Services' (OHS) consideration. Should there be any vacancies, OHS will review
your application.
How do I choose or request for on-campus housing/accommodation? Can I request for where I want to live?
Can I request for a specific type of room?
For exchange students, once your application for exchange to NUS has been accepted and if you
have checked the "YES" box for on campus accommodation, you will receive an offer letter with more details on application for accommodation. Follow the instructions carefully and apply online before thedeadline via the University Hostel Management System (UHMS) as indicated in the offer email.
You may indicate your preferred type of housing by selecting from the drop-down list in the online
housing application. However, allocation of specific room type cannnot be guaranteed. Information on the different types of housing can be found here: http://www.nus.edu.sg/osa/housing/General/options.html
